New Painting started today - Black Painting No 3


I started work this afternoon, on the 3rd painting in the series of new work entitled 'BLACK', a group of worked based the the color Black. The series includes sculptures and large scale paintings. This is painting number 3 and is the 1st state. March 10, 2013.

My West Chelsea art studio will be open to the public, Saturday, March 9, 2013, from 12- 6 p.m. for the HIGH LINE OPEN STUDIO - Armory Show Arts Week Chelsea day program. 

You are invited to stop by the studio, which is in the West Chelsea Arts Building, 526 West 26th Street, Studio 511, NYC

I will be available to meet visitors from 12 - 6 p.m. On view are recent works: Portrait of Mother and Black Sculptures. Selected works are for sale.

iPad drawing- Self Portrait


Trying out the drawing and painting apps on an iPad. This is a self portrait created in Sketchbook Pro app. Drawing with index finger. This is the first drawing done with the app. The software works very well, is intuitive and easy to use.

Canvas Paper Drawing Series Pad No. 2 - Ten Drawings






I recently bought a couple of Strathmore canvas paper pads, 16 x 20" for drawings. This is a series of 10 drawings from the 2nd pad. There are 10 sheets per pad. The drawings are free form and happen in a brief moment. Each drawing takes about 2 to 3 minutes or less to complete to capture the essence of creativity in drawing. Here are drawings 1 through 5.

This is the 2nd state of the current Black painting. Still working on it. It is an exploration in to the black hole of color & space and aggression. The idea was inspired by Gerhard Ricther's 1962 Table painting.

Black Painting in Progress - Comp Pinup State


I bought a used freshly painting black stretched canvas from someone who stops by my studio now and than, and sells used stretched to me from other artists, who discard them for what every reason. One of the four I bought was stretched with black gesso. Prefect. This is the first comp pinup state.
